About

 Ben Hilzinger is a Los Angeles-based drummer and songwriter with 20+ years of performing, recording and teaching experience. 

Currently the drummer for Eve 6 and cannons, Ben has also written, recorded, and/or toured throughout the USA/internationally with MXPX, Fitness, Mike Herrera, The classic crime, tapir, chevy mustang, Party Nails, We Shot The Moon, prxzm, Glorybots, Ever So Android, Jake Cummings, Josh Eacrett, rental 58, ray little, Jody ellen, young Professionals, Dave Cavalier, madhawkes and many more.

In addition to performing and teaching, Ben is the Director of Artist / Client Relations for Big Fat Snare Drum and hosts the ‘Big Fat Five’ podcast. Before moving to Los Angeles in 2016, Ben also taught drums/percussion/music theory both privately and at Off The Wall school of music in Seattle, WA.

Please click here for session rates/availability. Ben also provides remote recording options via his studio in Los Angeles. Ben excels in Pop, Rock, Indie, Alternative, Electronic, Singer-Songwriter, Country and Fusion, but don't hesitate to reach out with music outside those genres.  

Lessons

Ben matches his lessons to each individual student’s skill level, desires and needs. Whether you’re an absolute beginner or an advanced professional in need of some new inspiration, he will provide you with the tools and insight to become a better player. Learning new concepts wont always come easy, but it should be fun. Ben is available for lessons in person by appointment and/or online via Skype.

 

Here are a few concepts on which we will focus:

  • Develop technique

  • Develop reading skills

  • Develop independence

  • Develop your own voice and creativity on the drums

  • Snare drum rudimental studies - all from proven method books

  • Drum set styles include rock, funk, jazz (swing)

Lessons are taught out of Ben's home studio in the Hollywood Hills, but if you'd like him to travel to you, we can negotiate additional travel costs.
